About This FAQ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THIS IS NOT A MOVE LIST There seems to have never been a good WM2K/No Mercy reversal FAQ on the internet. Hopefully, this will become one. The main reason for this FAQ is to accumulate knowledge on the reversal system on the Virtual Pro Wrestling family of games. If you find something in here to be incorrect, please email us and let us know. Introduction To Reversals -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- No Mercy is the latest in a long line of wrestling games that use the AKI (Virtual Pro Wrestling) engine. In-keeping with the spirit of professional wrestling, most moves may be reversed to turn the tables on the opponent. There are two types of reversals in No Mercy; Manual and Automatic. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3. Manual Reversals -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------- a. Quick Reference ------------------- Opponent's Move | Reverse with.... ----------------|--------------------------------------------------- Striking | R Front Grapple | L (slap hands away) or A (counter-grapple) Back Grapple | ??? (probably L or A) Running Grapple | L Ground Grapple | A ---------------- b. Grapple Moves ---------------- i. Front Standing Grapples -------------------------- Front standing grapples happen when both players are standing next to each other and one presses 'A'. There are two ways to counter this type of attack manually. Both must be performed just as the opponent is attempting to hook up with you. The first option is to slap their hands away and cancel the grapple all together. To do this, you need to tap 'L' just before the opponent grabs you. The second option is to turn their grapple into your back grapple. To do this, you need to press A the instant before you are grabbed. This is performed after you would press L to slap their hands away. This is the hardest reversal to time correctly, so don't expect to get it first time. The strength of the grapple you perform is the same as the strength of the grapple they attempted e.g. Player 1 taps A to grab Player 2 in a weak grapple. Player 2 taps A just before Player 1's grapple connects, to counter with his own weak back grapple. ii. Back Standing Grapples -------------------------- These happen when one wrestler grabs the other from behind, by pressing L from a Front Standing Grapple, or as a reversal of a Front Standing Grapple (see above). I'm not sure exactly how to reverse these grapples, but it seems to use a similar technique to the Standing Front Grapple. If you know how to reverse these grapples manually, please let me know! iii. Running Grapples --------------------- These are new to the AKI engine with No Mercy. Pressing L as they grab you seems to reverse their grab into one of your 'Opponent Running' moves. Anyone that knows anything else about this, please let me know. iv. Ground Grapples ------------------- Occurs when one wrestler grabs another, who is on the floor. Ground grapples include such moves as a sleeper hold, leg lock or face twist. These can be reversed by tapping A just as the standing wrestler bends to apply the move. ----------------- c. Striking Moves ----------------- Striking moves include any move which does not take place inside a grapple. To reverse any striking move, you must press R just before you are hit. It will take some practice to perfect, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy. You cannot reverse a striking move when you are running. Kicks ----- When you reverse most kicks, you will grab the opponent's leg, and they will hop on one foot. You must then press either A or B at the correct time to slam them down to the mat. I'm not sure about the timing here, but I think you need to press the button while the opponent's heel is on the way up to the peak of the hop. If you time this wrong, the opponent will jump up and kick you in the back of the head. When you reverse some kicks, such as the Big Foot or a Drop Kick, you will not need to do this, and the move will be automatically reversed without the 'hopping' animation. When this occurs, the reversal you perform is either one of the character's regular kick reversal moves, or a counter specific to the reversed kick e.g. Knee Drop Kick 01 will always be reversed by a sidestep. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 4. Automatic Reversals -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Automatic reversals rely on the involved wrestlers' spirit. The following moves may be reversed with an automatic reversal Any turnbuckle grapple move Any apron grapple move Irish Whip Ramming opponenent's head into cage, wall or turnbuckle. Any front grapple move, apart from weak 'A' moves, such as a snapmare. These moves cannot be reversed, but will give both you and your opponent spirit when it is performed. Super-heavyweights ------------------ A super-heavyweight is a character who weighs over 399 lbs. The only super-heavyweights in the game by default are Rikishi, Mark Henry, Viscera and Andre The Giant (although Andre is hidden). There are some automatic reversals that apply only to super-heavyweights. Most standing grapple moves in which the opponent is lifted is changed into a bodyslam (if in a front grapple) or backdrop (if in a back grapple). This can have one of two results; 1. The super-heavywieght is slammed, resulting in a very large gain in spirit for the attacking wrestler and a very large loss for the super-heavyweight. Both wrestlers also finish on the mat. 2. The super-heavywieght resists the move. The attacker puts him down, holding his back in pain. The attacker gains a small amount of spirit. There is no change to the super-heavyweight's spirit. Both wrestlers are momentaritly 'stunned' while this animation occurs, leaving them open to attack from others. This is an exception to the above statement that a front weak grapple move may not be reversed. -End Of File-
